Lipstick is more than visible proof of a female state of mind. It’s also a statement and a pick-me-up, an instant makeover and a sexy way to accessorize.

While summer lips are often a wash of color, Fall and Winter call for richer, deeper shades. Now’s time for en femme drama, and do it with style! If you’re looking for a sexy pout in these colder months, opt for shades of berry, earthy brownish reds, rose mauve, plum and classic red.

The Perfect Red Lipstick

Red is my naughty girl, my little tramp. But how to wear red, you ask? Is it as simple as choosing any shade from the grocery store or cosmetic counter? Hell no! There’s some hard and fast rules, and these are rules you don’t break!

Fair Complexion — Choose a red with hints of blue and purple, like a flirty raspberry shade.

Medium Complexion — Go for an orange-y red shade, like a poppy red.

Dark complexion — These tones can wear both candy-apple shades and chocolate-cherry shades, too.

Some Final Lip Tips

1) Make sure you’re using a straw when you’re drinking coffee, wine or any other beverage that could stain your teeth.
2) Consider whitening treatments if you are going to wear red lipstick. This shade will make yellowish teeth look more yellow.
3) Pick a lip liner in the same color family and a shade or two lighter than your lipstick shade.
4) Be sure to exfoliate lips regularly to slough off dead skin and keep color from looking bumpy or uneven.
5) When you are not wearing lipstick (like when you’re sleeping), always wear a conditioning lip balm to keep lips soft and smooth.
6) Although there seems to be a difference of opinion depending on who you ask, it has always been my policy to not go for dramatic eyes and dramatic lips at the same time. Choose a bold eye and understated lip, or vice versa.

I have no doubt that now you are armed with all this lipstick knowledge, your lips will be rockin’ the cold weather in style, (and for some of you, those DSL’s will be trendy AF!)

Happy shopping!
