If there’s one thing I love, it’s make-up. I am always on the lookout for new colors and new products. I have drawers, cabinets and even those cute organizer thingies just packed full of all my fun make-up finds. Cosmetics are fun for dress-up, but they’re a big part of morning routines for many sissies and cross dressers, and I thought I’d take a week to pass on some tips for you to use!

Face forward!

Make-up is a great way to add instant femininity to your face. Here are some great tricks for soft lips and dazzling eyes!

1) Use a small, soft toothbrush to exfoliate your lips before applying any color or gloss. Use a lipliner a shade or two lighter than your lipstick, and once you have applied color, hold a tissue over your lips and apply powder over the tissue. This creates a matte look that helps the color last longer.

2) The key to making eyeshadow colors pop is a white base. Use a white eyeliner or white eyeshadow crayon to cover your entire lid before applying color. Use a light, soft pink matte pencil across the entire length of your brow bone to create the illusion of a higher arch, and then blend until it’s not detectable. And to turn a regular pencil eyeliner into a gel eyeliner, just hold the tip under the flame of a lighter or a match for one second and then cool for approximately 15 seconds. Voila! Gel eyeliner that will definitely add some variation to your norm.

Minimizing tip, anyone?

3) To slim a not-so-perfect nose, sweep a contour powder down the sides of the bridge of your nose and then a concealer down the middle. Blend and then set with a matte powder.

Proper cosmetic care

It’s not just all about the color. One big tip that cannot be ignored is how long to keep your make-up. It is natural for liquid foundations to settle, and it’s nothing that a vigorous shake can’t fix. But pay attention to the look and smell of things. Any cosmetics that develop a rank smell (especially mascara) has probably gone bad and can harbor bacteria and contribute to itchiness, rashes or infection. Barring any bad smells or visible problems, follow this guide:

*Powder blush and eyeshadow: will keep for 12-18 mos
* Lipstick: will keep for 12-18 mos
*Mascara: will keep for 3-4 mos
*Eyeliner: will keep for 18-24 mos
*Liquid make-up: will keep for 6-12 mos

If you’re still within the timeframe for mascara and you still have product in the tube but it’s getting a little dry, extend it’s life by dropping 1-2 drops of saline contact solution inside.

And something that I cannot stress enough! If you’ve had an eye infection such as conjuctivitis or staph (it’s gross but it happens!), discontinue use of cosmetics on your eyes. Not only will you clog up the infection, but any excessive watering because of the irritation can foul up your makeup and draw attention to the issue. Plus, any mascaras, liners or shadows that you have used during the infection will have to be thrown away to avoid re-infection, as your bacteria lives in your now-tainted makeup. Don’t mess with eye infections! Not to mention that it sure would suck to have throw a great product away, so hands off!

I hope that these tips, tricks and pieces of advice help you to enjoy make-up more (if that’s possible). If you’re just getting started, take it at your own pace and have fun. That’s what feminization is all about!
