Do you know about tops and bottoms? I’m talking about clothes, silly! Honestly, though. Some people wouldn’t know how to match items if their life depended on it. And it’s not just about colors and patterns. It’s about wearing something right for your size. First, you won’t be able to wear everything you love. Some of you just can’t pull it off, so you should just face that now. For example, tiny little skirts on a plus sized bottom won’t work, because if you’re popping out in all the wrong places, it’s just not sexy. Buying clothes too big won’t look right, either, because the natural shape of your body will be hidden. However, many cross dressers do this because they’re either self conscious, they grew up seeing their mother or another female role model do this, or both. No, when it comes to tops and bottoms, some of you need a little guidance. Good thing I’m here to get you thinking about what to buy once all the summer fashions are gone, right?
Finding a balance between fashion and comfort….
The truth is, if it’s not comfortable, you won’t wear it. What’s the point of spending good money on something that gets pushed to the back of your closet because it’s pinch-y or itchy? That doesn’t mean that you need to dress like Grandma, bless her heart. No, you’ll need to keep your eye out for breathable fabrics whenever possible, and items that can be used for different outfits when going out en femme. There are always classic key pieces regardless of the season. Consider this when shopping. My first rule in the beginner’s guide to cross dressing? There is no rule that you need to spend the rent while shopping. I never pay full price for anything, and that’s the truth. If I can’t find it on sale somewhere, I keep my eyes peeled at secondhand stores to look for the same type of thing for a much lower price. And when shopping, I always go for elegance. Always buy classy. You make the clothes sexy, the clothes don’t. So play with romance and timeless pieces. This is an exciting time to explore fashion feminization, so read on for key pieces this fall.
Amber’s List (Tops and Bottoms)
*Classy pencil skirts to pair with ruffled blouses—The pencil skirt always reminds me of the 1940’s….a glorious time for fashion! And don’t overdo the ruffles. (Remember that Seinfeld episode where Jerry wore that ruffled blouse-shirt and looked like a pirate? Yeah, not hot.) You want to accent your tops, not look like you’re trying too hard!
*Decorative tops to pair with brown or black suede skirts—When I say ‘decorative’, I don’t mean pumpkins or printed log cabins with billowing chimneys. Instead, look for pretty stitching, tasteful jeweled collars or securely-stitched beaded accents.
*Versatile sweaters—Those autumn nights can get chilly, and you’ll need something to keep you warm! Invest in a good cashmere sweater, and watch for deals on other cool-weather tops. When it starts getting cold, I always run out and get a couple basic, cable-knit sweaters. They look great with dark blue jeans. (Yes, I wear jeans. I love them!)
*Dressy slacks and mock turtlenecks—Get that ‘I mean business, but I love fashion’ look by pairing these together for casual times, dinner parties and other get togethers. No need to wear anything too stuffy.
Indulging yourself with beauty, making it intimate….
Follow the shape of your body and look for pieces that downplay problem areas while accentuating the positive. Worried about your tummy? Look for skirts with a higher waist. Have thicker calves and thighs? Choose straight-leg rather than flared. Love your breastforms and ample chest? Pick something a little lower cut to catch someone’s eye. More than anything, play with color. Fall brings out the jewel tones, and makes us fall in love with sage green, navy, eggplant, pumpkin, brick reds and creams. Really feel the fabric, and let it dance on your skin. Silky smooth, crisp, pillow-soft and suede….find your personal balance.
It’s a beautiful world, friends. Decorate yourself.

Fall is best time for fashion! Summer is to hot! To much chaos to be honest! Fall night are cooler and that best time to dress as well as call. What do you think of ankle boots/pumps with yoga pants with women’s turtleneck? I love the body con dresses as well as the sheath dresses? I love wearing them. I’ve been eating clean because it’s healthy and good for you but also to fit into women’s clothes better. I’ll give up carbs for kale. Interest in football as well as sports are that I don’t follow it anymore as it’s way hot how women can have way with me in doing girlish things instead of watching game for 4 hours and getting fat.
You want to know what I really think of yoga pants? I don’t think they should ever see the light of day. Seriously. They are fine for housework or exercise, but you could definitely come up with a better choice for something to wear with a turtleneck. How about a skirt or a nice pair of ponte knit slacks? Both could be worn with pumps or boots. There’s a ton of stretch with ponte fabric, and it just looks nicer. Of course, there’s nothing wrong with comfort, but if you’re leaving the house, you owe it to yourself to look nice. Good job on the clean eating, also. Better for you, of course. But definitely helps you stay slim, which starts to become a challenge in the colder holiday months.
