Being in Las Vegas, my Fall and Winter will be pretty pleasant and doable, but it’s easy to forget that not everyone has my climate! Back in Portland OR where my friends are, I’m already being told that nighttime is getting brisk and the rains have started. Yeah, I don’t miss that at all! I’m sitting outside every night and except for the occasional thunderstorm, I’m pretty amazed at the weather here. Soon, it will be cold as fuck for my friends and pretty much the rest of the US. You’ll be wearing those cute winter hats with the yarnball on top while I’m wearing an open hoodie that will never get zipped! I’ll miss the colors changing but at least I won’t freeze my ass off! I’m not trying to gloat, and I know that in some parts of America, it’s going to get biting cold and downright miserable. That being said, here’s a little skin and hair throwback as handy tips to remember when the cold weather starts getting icy. This is an excerpt from my Oct 18, 2017 Amber Academy blog.

Cold Weather Throwback

Lock it in— Lotion just isn’t for hands! Invest in a quality softening cream for your skin, because cold weather can be a bitch! Wear gloves when you do dishes and apply hand cream after every hand wash. And don’t put body lotion on your face. Look for a good, moisture-rich cream to guard against chapped cheeks and other areas that really take a winter beating. And try to get a small, travel version to carry in your sissy purse for when you’re out.

Seal it up— Look into a leave-in conditioner for hair, but only apply it to the ends. Putting product on your roots will make your hair limp and lifeless.

Never go naked— Lip balm is your friend. You should never have bare lips in winter. The moment you start licking dry lips, you’re on the road to ruin. Thankfully, balms and protectants are fairly cheap and many even have tint, so two birds with one stone!

Stupid soft hands — I actually have a tip that has been in my family for years, and it takes ‘soft hands’ to the next level. Get yourself a large tub of petroleum jelly and a thin pair of soft cloth gloves. Smooth a generous layer of jelly on the backs of your hands and fingers. Then put the gloves on and leave on overnight. In the morning, you will see and feel a difference that regular lotion just can’t deliver. You can do this once a week in winter, or whenever you feel like it.
