Open any magazine during the summer months, and what do you see? Beautiful hair. Beach-y waves, tousled tresses…..you know what I’m talking about. But summer hair isn’t just for magazines. This season, my sissies and cross dressers can get the scoop on the things you need to know when doin’ it up for summer.

Summer hair for you right now

The heat’s on— Lay off the hair dryers and heated styling tools. If you have long hair, start loose-braiding clean, damp hair at night. You’ll have gorgeous waves in the morning! If you MUST blowdry, use a diffuser nozzle at the end of your dryer to be a little more kind to your hair.

Hair food— Yes, everyone wants to fit into their sexy summer wear, but eating the right things is still important. Diet has a big impact on hair. Eggs, spinach and avocados are just a few foods that can actually contribute to healthier looking hair from the inside out.

Up and away— Tie up your hair in a loose updo before bed to avoid tangles. You’ll be so happy you did when you’re saving a little time later in en femme beauty prep.

Go soft— Conditioning is key. Keep conditioner away from the scalp because it will only make your styles go limp, and concentrate instead on the length of your strands and the ends. Restoring moisture is crazy important in summer when heat can cause havoc. As if that wasn’t enough, chlorine from a pool can really do a number on you. If you love to swim, be prepared to get your hair back to good condition on a regular basis, as pool chemicals can make your strands dull and dry.

Natural sun— Want some subtle and temporary summer highlights without the salon? Mix some lemon juice with a little water and spritz on your hair and then sit in the sun…..wearing sunscreen on your face, of course! (Here’s some more info on sunscreen that might be helpful.)

A little something extra

Spend a little time looking into pretty barrettes and combs that draw the eye to your feminine beauty. Loose ponytails, messy buns and other styles that are easy to do are always made lovelier by a little hair jewelry. Own your look and love yourself every day. That’s the key to happiness.
