Is there really anything more thrilling than buying a bra? Certainly, few things are as feminine, mysterious and downright sexy as breasts, and everyone knows it. From the moment a sissy or a cross dresser starts dabbling in dress up, breasts are one of the first things they covet and yearn for. This entry is all about bras and how to take care of them.
Bra purchasing and how to do it right
So let’s say you’ve already got your heart set on the perfect size pair of breastforms or the hormones you’ve been taking have resulted in budding breast growth that excites you to no end. Resist the urge to take a guesstimate on your size or do your own measurements so that you can order bras online. It’s not just about numbers, it’s about fit….and you’ll need expertise for that. Part of feeling feminized and beautiful is enjoying your transformation. You might be shy or feel that in-home purchasing is best because it’s easier and what you’ve always done, but if you cheat yourself out of a proper bra fitting, you will miss something special. Not only that, but you will likely wait and wait for your shipped package, only to find out that it digs into your skin or doesn’t sit right on your body. Save time and headache by taking advantage of what is owed to you!
I wrote a great piece on buying a bra in the very first series of Amber Academy, and I strongly encourage that you give it a read. You’ll find it here.
Extending the life of your bra for maximum wear
1) Remember to clasp your bras closed before washing. Sometimes, those hooks are a bitch in the wash. They can attach themselves to other bras, tear fabric and even end up winding themselves around the middle of your washer. Not fun, and sometimes damaging.
2) Keep things with like colors. Your intimates are color sensitive just like anything else you’re washing. Sometimes, people forget that about bras and panties.
3) Wash carefully. I have a girlfriend that is downright religious about handwashing her bras. Although that’s probably the best route to take, time doesn’t always allow if you’re busy and don’t have alot of free time. Washing machines are not bad, just remember to use mild soap in cold water on the gentle cycle, no bleach. Always drip dry.
Owning and wearing bras feel spectacular. It is one of the most beautiful opportunities we have to feel feminine.
I did do bra fitting earlier this year at Victoria’s Secret and the salesgirls were more then shop to fit me. I felt weak and submissive getting fitted. But they had size 38 as they said it’s to tight for me. I was bummed but at least I got fitted. For washing I use delicate wash but I think hand washing would be better as well as hang drying.
The bra is one piece I can live with out. It’s so girlish and feminine it reminds me of who I am. I haven’t done hormones nor breast forms. If i did hormones are they reversible? I don’t want to mess with them if they aren’t.
I shy away from giving medical advice for obvious reasons. I would ask your Doctor, Peter. And don’t worry, it’s all confidential.
I’m not planning on doing hormones anytime soon. It cost to much and I’m to active to take them. But I do plan on buying more bras as I enjoy wearing them and they are so comfy especially the Warner’s bra and maidenform bras. It really reminds me that I’m a sissy.
I hate when bras are uncomfortable! My friend recently turned me onto t-shirt bras, and I love them!
Another very information post, Ms. Amber! After panties, I think bras tend to be sissies’ and crossdressers’ most important garments. They represent something distinctly feminine since there is no male counterpart. Buying a bra can be a meaningful first foray into the world of femininity, so it’s important to keep those bras in pristine condition!
I completely agree. Not only do we want to maintain them because they are important to our feminine routines, let’s face it. Those damn bras usually cost so damn much, we want them to last as long as they can!
Oh my gosh that is SO true what you said about pre-hooking bras before washing. If you want to treat your bras right, and let’s face it they ARE expensive, then a hand wash is preferable. I get that not everyone has a sissy maid like me. (Do sissies have sissy maids? Tee hee) My point still stands but if you have one bra that is an absolute favorite, then give it the star treatment and the old warm water swish n’ swirl.
I totally agree….good thing I have a live-in sub to take care of that for me. Bras definitely deserve the extra care!
Ms Amber ~ Oh bras are my favorite things!! You are so right to encourage a professional bra fitting. Nothing makes me feel more feminine, sexy and confident than a well fitting pretty bra. Taking care of them is so important to keeping them pretty and their shape ( not to mention so many of them have delicate gems). what I love most about this post is how you truly give bras their rightful importance! Thank you so much for this wonderful installment of Amber’s Academy!
You are quite welcome, Miss Kay Marie! Bras are beautiful and fun, but they definitely need proper care.
